Crappy Village Maps

Extract from Adventures In Fellmyr, Issue #2 (Nov 2023)

One of the recurring lessons in creating Fellmyr has been to embrace quickly sketching maps – however crappy I feel they are – and then use them at the table. In the spirit of encouraging others to similarly embrace speed and ease over quality, here’s my hastily drawn map of Stone Harrow. It took about 5 minutes during a lunch time at school.

Here’s rough key to some of the annotations:

  1. Ellamina’s House: Halfling wise-woman, local midwife, known for her potions.
  2. Ethan’s Forge: Known as “The Elder”, Ethan trades with the Dwarves of Azaz, receiving iron and other materials in return for worked goods of leather and fur.
  3. Semla’s Tannery: Portly woman who runs a leatherworking workshop with her sons, Eldred and Felton. Trades up to Azaz and down to Hargrave.
  4. Hal’s Equippery: General goods store which does quite well with all the adventurers around lately. Has most items in small quantities.
  5. The Boathouse: Master Allain builds fishing boats for the community. The local fishermen help him out during busier periods.
  6. Weirdly, I missed this letter out.
  7. Guardhouse: Near the East Gate, this has a bell on the highest tower along the wooden stockade. The Captain of the Guard spends most of his time here. The field near the Well is used for training.
  8. Hmm.
  9. The Black Dragon Inn: Run by Eckhart Dragonbane, a legendary adventurer who arrived when Stone Harrow was built more than 50 years ago.

Game on!
