More Simple GURPS

This morning, driving to work, I listened to a special episode of Tale of The Manticore in which the two creators of my favourite hybrid solo fantasy RPG/audio drama shows discussed their craft. As Simon and Jon talked, I suddenly had a realisation…

Two ideas have been buzzing around my mind for the past week or so. The first is the desire to continue to run the school games club next academic year and to offer an open table fantasy adventure game. The second has been the desire to continue my own solo fantasy game which has begun to be recorded as its own audiodrama.

The realisation was this: I could run both games in the same fantasy world and with the same rules engine. For the school club, I could offer the opportunity to enter Crag’s Ruin using some adventurers powered by Simple Dungeon GURPS. For my own solo play, I could explore the wider world using the full (if simplified) core GURPS rules.

I could flesh out and develop the fantasy world that I begun to play within and have already netted several sessions of adventure. I could go deeper into the lore and develop the fantastic realms for my own enjoyment while also allowing the students to experience an easily-accessible snippet of that world.

Thanks to Jon and Simon for continuing to inspire my gaming!

Game on!

  1. I love the idea to set several disparate games in the same game world. Everything you create/discover will add to the greater campaign world.
