RuneQuest Solo

Today I have been mostly messing around with RuneQuest in solo mode. There’s a lot to learn and process, making progress slower than I might prefer, but overall I’m having a good time with the rules. Slowly stepping closer to wanting to run the game for a group.

This morning I ran through the SoloQuest for a second time and managed to complete the adventure. Although re-reading the early sections lost some of its charm, once I got into the meat of the adventure past where I had died last time it was all good stuff.

Victory in the SoloQuest and some further reading about the world from the Starter Set encouraged me to sit down and try to create my own character. It took a few hours of reading, rolling, thinking, and summoning courage… but I got there.

I find the RuneQuest core rulebook a bit too dense and intense to begin with. I think my previous bouncing off the game has come from the amount of lore you need to internalise to begin play.

Character creation is very good because it gives you a deep background… but oh, it’s a lot to learn and process! That said, I have created a new Sartarite adventurer name Mareena, Daughter of Saronil, who is an Initiate of Babeester Gor and a Warrior by profession.

All in all, it has been a very RuneQuest day and I’ve enjoyed it. Wondering where to take the game next.

Game on!
