Pre-Holiday Ramblings

Being three days from another holiday, I have the sense that I am on the cusp of something… but I can’t put my finger on it. There’s an inkling that niggles my mind but cannot quite be pinned down.

Most holidays start out with high ideals and grand plans but devolve into too many hours bumbling around the house and too few hours doing anything constructive. But then holidays present a tension between the need to rest versus the desire to enjoy some hobby.

This time around I have an active campaign in Fellmyr to prep for and develop, plus the sketch of a new modern day “monster hunter” game with the school club lot to bring to life. I also have the various strands of solo play that have all been dropped lately.

There’s the sense of arrival and readiness in relation to the GURPS system and my growing confidence in using it. But there’s also a wispiness to what that might practically mean, like I can make out the outline in the mental fog.

The more I try and pin down my hobby and give it solid form, the more it seems to slip through my fingers and becomes insubstantial. I have never quite figured out how to make real the ideas that overflow from my mind.

Am I alone in this? I suspect not. But I thought I’d share the sensation with you.

Game on!

  1. Sounds good Che. I’m sure you already know, but just in case you don’t, GURPS has a couple of lines that might prove really useful for a monster hunter type-game. Monster Hunters(!) and Creatures of the Night. I’ve toyed with the idea of running a similar game, and they’re full of useful stuff. Enjoy your hols and hope you get to chill in a way that’s good for you.

    • Thanks – I own all of those books… and I have decided not to use Monster Hunters “as written” but rather to build our own thing. Of course, that doesn’t stop us raiding the books for ideas. 😉

  2. Are you alone in having ideas flowing from your imagination and doing nothing with them? NO!

I constantly get inspiration and ideas for things I’d like to play with. And then they’re gone as fast as I get them. Sometimes I even write them down…and never look back at my notebook.

It sucks but its how I am.
