Florence Oakly is the third player character created by one of the girls in the School D&D Club and, because it’s the first day of the 2024 Character Creation Challenge, I decided it might be fun to port her to the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game.

I use the word “port” rather than “convert” because the intent is to provide an experience with the character which broadly reflects the way the character has been played as much as their D&D statistics. Thus, this is not a treatise in mapping D&D to GURPS.
The first thing I noticed were actually the interesting character notes on the back of the D&D sheet. She is described as being “Half-Elf” on the front – a statement that has no game effect in 1983 Basic D&D – but lots more interesting notes on the back. I used these to give flavour.

It’s amusing to note that the player has incorrectly given Florence some “+5 Crossbow Bolts” instead of the five +1 Bolts actually discovered. The party split them between three players, so she has two. It’s also amusing to see how much gear is being carried which, once ported to DFRPG, becomes hugely encumbering.
Overall, though, I had fun porting the character… although (typically for me) I forgot to add any Quirks. I’ll go back and fix those when I get a spare minute. Here’s how the Dungeon Fantasy version ended up once I exported the sheet from GURPS Character Sheet:

Game on!

Now that I look at it again, I need to spend those Quirk points on some basic skills, such as Climbing, Hiking, Stealth, First Aid, and Observation.

Nice example of ‘translation’ that gives me ideas. Thanks!
