Unexpectedly, I received a package from the USA today containing a complete boxed set of Griffin Island. This is an amazing find and, well, exciting to explore!
While Griffin Island derives from the earlier Griffin Mountain, and is generally unfavourably compared, I am curious to explore both products. As I begin my campaign set in Griffin Mountain’s Gloranthan world, it’ll be interesting to examine and possibly pinch stuff from the later boxed set.
Not really had much of a chance to read anything yet so I shall simply post some photos from my unboxing.

Important elements of the Chaosium version missing from Griffin Island: the Lunars have become orcs [which totally changes the politics in Elkoi], the Trolls have become orcs or Slarges (Iguana-men); the Giants are gone, so no more Gonn Orta or trading fro magic; Joh Mith and the caravans are gone too.
