Quill and Brother Paul

This week I’ve been focused on learning the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game through the lens of creating 70-point characters for the Character Creation Challenge this month.

As I commented yesterday, the simple act of imagining the immediate backstory of each character has made building them much easier. Here’s two prepped as pregens for an upcoming game.

Quill (Thief)

Growing up in the gutters of Hargrave was tough but Quill survived by being quicker than most of the other street rats. He was inducted into the Rats, the primary Thieves’ Guild, before he hit puberty and made a fair name for himself picking pockets in the Market. From there, he learned how to pick locks and pilfer small things to sell to his contacts. But his big desire is to earn enough to get out of Hargrave – off the streets and finding his own way in the world outside. When the Grand Rat put out a call for volunteers to go on a raid outside the walls, Quill volunteered right away.

Brother Paul (Cleric)

Brother Paul grew up in the poorer district of Hargrave and was taken in by the Church after he was left penniless and sleeping rough. Having found the care of the priests and watching how they sought to serve those around him, he committed himself to a Rule of Prayer and started to go out among the poor delivering bread the Church funds. It didn’t take long before he found himself in contact with the Rats, especially the children and petty thieves on the streets. Although he is conflicted, Brother Paul has asked permission to work among the criminal element and seeks to show them the benefits of the Way. Sometimes he finds himself volunteering to go on “jobs” with the Rats so that he can offer service as a healer.
