A Future For Roleplay Rescue?

The last episode of Roleplay Rescue Season 12 aired on Saturday – a great conversation with The Alexandrian about his forthcoming book. Of course, regular listeners to the show know that the season actually ended two episodes earlier when I said:

“I’m not really sure if and when I’ll be back for more episodes so… thank you for showing up and listening over the past 4 and a half years!”

RPR S12, E26 “Tension and Change With Jason Connerley

And, at that moment, I meant it – I was done.

Then the call-ins started. Only a few but messages of appreciation and comments on how some people would like to hear more.

So, riddle me this: if I return to the mic, what on Earth would you like me to talk about?

Post comments below, or call in and let me know.

Maybe if I get a few good ideas then I’ll be able to face the mic.

Game on!

  1. Hey Che,
I don’t know where else I would get your particular worldview on roleplaying games of all sorts, or the interesting conversations you have with all sorts of varied people in the worlds of gaming. For what it’s worth, your podcasts have kept me going for quite a long time and been an inspiration for my own projects. It’s totally selfish to ask you to (please) consider continuing, but I would love it if you did. If you don’t, thanks for what you’ve put out there over the years, and I wish you all the best for the future. Take care mate, do what’s best for you.

    • Thank you. I guess the challenge right now for me is having a sense of “what’s next?” The worse thing I can imagine is just carrying on with the podcast without clear purpose. Have I said all the things? 👍

  2. Hi Che – to be honest, I trust you and your inspiration for what you would want to cover. But if you are looking for ideas, I would be interested in hearing more about the whole tiny prep process, maybe using that as a framework for someone coming back to the table and starting up their own game for the first time, working through the various steps with some examples. I know you’ve mentioned it a few times but would love to see this whole process expanded on in more detail. Could be a good companion for the book(?) you’re working on – but hope that wouldn’t be too much overlap.

    • Thanks, Matt. I’m glad someone trusts my muse for inspiration. 🥸 Tiny Prep is a useful suggestion to consider. Yeah, the book isn’t a huge tome (it’s Tiny, in fact) but there is step-by-step guidance you can look forward to.

  3. The reporting of and commentary on sessions of play are more valuable than people typically realize. What was done? Why was it done? How was it perceived by you and received by the others? What surprises arose? What plans did and did not work? Which techniques were easy, and which were difficult, etc.

As you explore your apprenticeship, as you call it, it seems there is much to share as a new season~

  4. I’m always a big fan of your interviews and you’ve introduced me to so many interesting creatives in the industry so more of them please.

Also I’m with Runeslinger in that is love to hear how your “apprenticeship” advances going forward; what works, what doesn’t, lessons learned, any revelatory moments etc

    • Thank you. Talking to the good folk of the wider community always seems inaccessible to me but then they usually say yes and surprise me. I’ll keep that in mind. As for revelation, well, who is to say what might happen. 😉

  5. I agree with much that’s been said by the previous commentators. Your earnest and unpretentious approach to the hobby is incredibly refreshing, grounding and insightful. Your listeners learn with you. That’s rare and valuable.

Obviously, you have no obligation to press onward. Do what you feel is right.

If you do continue, however, I’d make an effort to pop my head in more often than I’ve done before, though 🙂

  6. Hi Che. What I appreciate in your Roleplay Rescue and Gm’s Journal podcasts is that you share your feelings about your RPGs experience with honesty and humility. What I’d like is more content about your Tiny Prep method, and how you use it in your day to day schedule. As I said when I called, as an anxious gamer and GM, I like your tips about how you face these challenges. Nevertheless, since you said that RPR was on hiatus, I’ve begun to read your blog posts more often, and listening to RPR episodes that aired when you begun podcasting, so, for now I am not craving for content 😉 Take the time you need, and when you’ll be ready to get back to RPR, you’ll feel it 🙂
