Just a quick note to say I received the Traveller Explorer’s Edition from Mongoose today and… well, it wasn’t what I was expecting. I don’t know why, but I imagined it would be an A5 softback and it’s actually a typical-sized Traveller softback… just very thin.

The Traveller Explorers’ Edition is an introduction to the game for newcomers that provides all of the tools you need to create adventures or even an entire campaign.

It’s not Mongoose’s fault that I imagined a very different sized book. That’s on me. While I do think an A5 booklet would be much more useful at the table, that’s not what this is. My suspicion is that the term, “Explorer’s Edition” has somehow evoked the Savage Worlds‘ smaller and more practical at-the-table sized book.

That said, it’s a great introduction to the game and contains what you need to begin, excepting any adventures or setting material. It’s a much more accessible and affordable alternative to the Traveller Starter Set. And I love the cover!
