Frying Tonight!

We had a rather entertaining session of D&D this evening when the PCs returned to a known Goblin lair (in a larger dungeon) and engaged in throwing oil at their enemies. In short, six Goblins got burned alive over two rounds with a massive conflagration!

Truly, my neophyte players are learning: the two Magic-users (who both rolled Magic Missile for their spell books) used their single spells to great effect (killing one Goblin each) before lobbing flasks of oil at the remaining foes. While the Elf and the Fighter ran in to melee combat, the two wizards seem to have developed a strategy involving burning foes alive.

What truly made the encounter interesting was the application of Reaction Rolls (making the Goblins initially hesitant) and Morale Checks (making the Goblins run after the flames erupted). These rules meant that the four-person party did not have to engage the whole tribe and could meaningfully rout them with a show of fire, magic, and steel.

Overall, the group’s cooperation and smart thinking paid off… and I always enjoy watching the players come up with a winning strategy.

Game on!
