Letting Stuff Go

There’s been a fair mountain of miniature wargames stuff cluttering up my house for something like the past 17 years, ever since I left Games Workshop in 2006. To be fair, a lot of it predated even that period as gaming stuff I wasn’t using. This week I finally managed to find a way to let it go.

I am deeply grateful to a wargaming friend for agreeing to come and collect it all, pile it into his car, and distribute it to various wargaming clubs and individuals around the area. His act of charity – to simply find homes for dozens of miniatures, some painted many not – was a huge boon and relief.

The best thing, of course, is hearing about how many of those old toy soldiers are finding new life in the collections of others. As I’ve said before, the great pleasure of decluttering the house is to realise the joy that your unused and dusty heirlooms bring to the lives of others.

This extends into the metaphysical and psychological realm too: letting go of unhelpful, unwanted “stuff” – be it thought, emotion, outdated beliefs, ideas, or whatever – is a lightening of the soul. We cling so hard to the idea of what we own and what we have accumulated throughout our lives and most of it is simply burdensome.

Letting stuff go is a relief.

Game on!
