Positively Giving

Decluttering my roleplaying game collection recently has proven much less painful and much more rewarding than expected. While I have long known that giving is something that is good for the soul, I had honestly never quite trusted that idea. It’s nice to discover I was wrong.

There are books that I can let go to a reseller for a nominal cost. Even though I try to ignore the sunk costs in my game stacks, it’s nice to both get these books into someone else’s hands as well as recouping a tiny amount of cash.

But the surprisingly positive moments have been when I’ve posted photos of books on the RPR Discord and invited people to cover the postage for anything they want. While the cost of sending books to the USA and Canada has proven ridiculous, many tomes have been rehomed in this manner.

Before sending unwanted books to the recycling centre – so that at least the paper can be reclaimed – I’ve also dropped some of the more mainstream titles over to a local charity shop. This offers the hope of some books finding a new home as well as funding the charity in question.

My point? Perhaps letting go is easier than we think. Giving away those things which burden us and clutter up the house, unused, is a blessing waiting to be realised. In the end, I’m finding that the process of releasing resource back into the world is both relieving and rewarding.

Game on!
