The Joy Of Creation

I’m not sure what I can say except that there is true joy in the act of creation. Today has been a day in which I’ve travelled deep into preparation for the forthcoming fantasy game set in Balazar, as well as recording the fourth episode of the ongoing solo fantasy game which originated in Crag’s Ruin.

What’s amazing to me is the way in which both games arose from a common source: the 1980 RuneQuest boxed set which my father bought and I appropriated.

On the one hand, the inspiration of RuneQuest’s fantasy world has finally found root in my heart. On the other, I was transported through the original BRP rules to create a simple fantasy world of my own.

For too many years, I have been crippled by self-doubt and second-guessing myself. Having settled on some key decisions around Rules and the World, I am embarking now on the development and practice of my own Methodology.

With the permission of my gracious and generous players, we’ll take a journey together into shifting the “regular kind” of roleplaying game steadily towards the experience of playing more deeply immersed in the World with interesting characters.

It’s not going to be a simple road but it will be a path I follow whole-heartedly. I have never experienced quite the depth of calm and creative energy which has been flowing around and through me these past few days.

All I can do is turn my face to those around me and say, “Thank you.”

I could not have become who I am today – the guy who finally believes enough to run a game from his heart – without my friends and supporters.

Game on!
